Departure conditions/formalities

Description

Visa is a permit which allows to a non-citizen of Montenegro to enter, stay and transit through the territory of Montenegro.

Mere possession of a visa is not a guarantee of entry into Montenegro, and some other conditions of entry and residence of foreigners in Montenegro prescribed by the Law on Foreigners (Official Gazette of Montenegro, no. 12/2018 and 3/2019) have to be fulfilled as well.

Visa regime between Montenegro and other countries is regulated by the Decree on Visa Regime (Official Gazette of Montenegro, no. 33/2019 and 67/2020).

Visa does not constitute authorization to operate in Montenegro. A person who intends to work in Montenegro must obtain a temporary residence permit for employment or seasonal work, based on the previously issued work permit.

From December 2009, the visa regime for EU was amended, and it allows now for the citizens of Montenegro to travel without visas to all 25 Member States belonging to the Schengen zone, but also in the three countries that are not part of the EU (Iceland, Norway and Switzerland).

Details on the visa conditions and required documenta is provided on the web site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegrovisa section. If you want to travel somewhere outside of Montenegro the best option is to check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro or you can contact the Ministry using the e-mail address: visa@mfa.gov.me.
